It has been one year since Rabbi Rhonda Nebel came to CBI from her previous position in Hauppauge, NY. A year after Rabbi Nebel, her husband Robert, and their daughter Samara joined the CBI community, Rabbi Nebel reflects on the joys and challenges of a year impacted by the pandemic.
Rabbi Nebel says she has been impressed by how genuine everyone in the congregation is. “Menschlichkeit oozes out of this community and I haven’t even seen it in its full glory yet as we are just now on the precipice of a full opening,” she says, adding, “the love and care you show each other surpasses any community I have worked in up to now. It is rare and I am lucky to be a part of it now.”
The rabbi’s primary goal was to reach out and get to know all of CBI’s members. She recalls, “with the pandemic, nothing was easy at first. I wanted to meet everyone; I wanted to establish relationships, goals and dreams within the CBI committees and community. I wanted to learn the rhythm and heartbeat of where I am in the Jewish community and beyond. I wanted to continue successful beloved programs and create some new ones. (Read more)
This fall explore the texts, traditions, people and beliefs that define Judaism and perhaps find your own Jewish identity in the process. Rabbi Rhonda Nebel, our new Rabbi, is proudly leading CBI’s Adult Education program. The topics will be interesting and diverse and discussion is encouraged. Join us for Adult Ed classes Mondays at 10:30 A.M. and 6:30 P.M. We are currently studying Pirke Avot. The ethical teachings of our Sages, Pirke Avot is a powerful section that provides universal guidance for all humankind. You may use Lev Shalem p. 235ff, Sim Shalom p. 602ff, or any siddur you have. Rabbi Nebel also sends out the texts and materials via email attachments on the Thursday prior to class on Monday. Each class is an individual unit so you can come to as many as you like. The Zoom link is the same link used for Shabbat services. The fall class will meet Mondays at 10:30 A.M. and 6:30 P.M on Zoom.
